Hampton Court Palace stands beside the Thames twelve miles upstream of central London, where Henry VIII's Tudor brick and William III's Baroque wings meet around a run of courtyards.
Cardinal Wolsey began building here in 1514 and spent lavishly on what he meant to be the finest palace in England. By 1529 he had fallen from favour and handed it to Henry VIII, who enlarged it for a court of more than a thousand people. On 12 July 1543 Henry married his sixth wife, Catherine Parr, at the palace.
Other royal couples began married life here too. Mary I spent her honeymoon at Hampton Court with Philip of Spain, and Charles I brought his bride Henrietta Maria here in 1625. From 1689 Sir Christopher Wren rebuilt half the Tudor palace for William III, which is why two such different styles still sit side by side.
On the artwork the grounds open out like a fan. The Long Water, dug in 1662, runs east from the semicircular garden below the east front, and Bushy Park spreads away to the north beyond the road. The Thames runs along the palace's edge, with Hampton Court Bridge crossing over to East Molesey on the Surrey bank.
Questions
Where does the pin go?
On the palace buildings. If your photographs were taken in the Privy Garden, beside the Long Water or elsewhere in the grounds, drag the pin to that spot before you preview.
Will the maze be on the map?
Yes, as a small knot of paths about 250 metres north of the palace, near the top of the artwork. The Thames, the start of the Long Water and the edge of Bushy Park across the road all fit inside the frame too.
Can we add our names and the date?
Yes. Your names go in the title and the date goes beneath it, or write whatever you like there. You see the finished artwork before you pay.
Is this an official Hampton Court Palace product?
No. Maps & Son is not connected with Hampton Court Palace or its owners. The name says which place is mapped: this is a map of the venue and the land around it, drawn from OpenStreetMap.
How much does a wedding venue print cost?
