This website does two jobs. You can design and buy a poster here directly, or, if you bought one of ours on a marketplace, you can design the artwork you have already paid for and approve it before it is printed. Which of those applies to you decides a few of the sections below, and each one says so.

Who you are dealing with

Maps & Son is a website created by Data Dive, a company registered in England and Wales. 11-13 The Grove, Ilkley LS29 9LW. Company number 13900550. VAT number 412776007.

Your purchase contract is with us either way - what differs is where it was made.

If you bought here, these terms are the terms of that sale. If you bought through our Etsy shop, the sale was made there and Etsy’s own policies apply to the purchase itself; these terms cover this website and how your artwork is made.

Buying here

Prices run from £24.95 to £99.50 depending on the size you choose and whether you add a frame. The price shown at checkout is the price - it includes VAT and there is nothing added at the end. Delivery is free to every country we ship to, and checkout will only accept an address in one of them.

Payment is taken by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and never to us - we are told that the payment succeeded, along with the delivery address you gave and the amount charged, and nothing more.

Your order is made when that payment completes. If we cannot make or send your poster for any reason, we will cancel it and refund you in full to the card you paid with.

Designing your artwork

Your order link is private. Anyone holding it can see and change your design and see your delivery address, so treat it like a password and do not post it publicly.

You are responsible for what you put on the artwork - the place, the title, any text. Please check spelling carefully: a name spelled the way you typed it is not a fault we can replace.

Approving, and the half-hour after it

Nothing is printed until you approve a preview. The preview is drawn from exactly the same map, at the same framing, as the file that goes to print - it is smaller on screen, but it is not a different picture.

We then wait 30 minutes before sending anything to the printer. During that window you can go back and change your design at no cost, from the link on your confirmation page.

If you bought here, approving and paying are the same moment - you design the poster, look at the finished preview, and pay for the one you can see. The 30 minutes start then. If you bought on a marketplace you paid first and approve afterwards, so they start when you approve.

Changing or cancelling

Because your artwork is made to your own specification, it is exempt from the usual 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. That exemption applies to personalised goods generally, not just to us.

We tell you this before you pay, on the payment page itself, because the exemption only applies if you were told.

This is why the 30-minute window exists, and it is genuinely your window: until it closes nothing has been printed and a change costs nothing. If you bought here and would rather not go ahead at all, cancel within that window and we will refund you in full. Once it closes, your artwork has gone to the printer.

None of this affects your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 if what arrives is faulty, damaged or not what you approved.

If something arrives damaged

Tell us through the status page on your order link, with a photograph. In most cases we will simply print and send a replacement - you do not need to return the damaged one. Some claims are looked at by a person first; we will always tell you which is happening and why.

Maps and copyright

Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence, with cartography from Protomaps and elevation data from Mapzen. The artwork we produce is for your personal use. You keep the rights in anything you supply, such as a GPX route; you give us permission to use it only to make your artwork.

What we can’t promise

We try to keep this site available and accurate, but we do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
