Eastnor Castle looks like a fortress from the Middle Ages, yet it was built in the reign of George III, at the foot of the Malvern Hills and a couple of miles east of Ledbury.

The 1st Earl Somers commissioned it, and his architect was Robert Smirke, who went on to be the main architect of the British Museum. Work ran from 1812 to 1820 and cost £85,000. The aim was a castle that seemed to guard the Welsh border. Inside, A. W. N. Pugin reworked rooms in 1849 and 1850, and George E. Fox added more in the 1860s.

On the artwork the castle sits beside its lake, with the estate's woods and drives around it. A few hundred metres to the north west is Eastnor village and its Church of St John the Baptist, rebuilt by Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1852. Out in the deer park, a little over a mile from the castle, stands the obelisk the 2nd Earl commissioned in 1812.

Screen audiences know the place well. It appeared in the BBC's Little Lord Fauntleroy and ITV's Doctor Thorne, and in the first series of HBO's Succession it was the Roy family's English stately home and the setting for a wedding. Your own wedding gets the quieter version: the contours, the lake and the lanes into Eastnor, with the hills rising beyond the edge.

Questions

Where does the pin go?

On the castle. The village church is only a few hundred metres away, so if you married there you can move the pin onto it and the castle will still be on the map.

Will the Malvern Hills show?

Not the main ridge, which lies beyond the edge of the map. You will see the contours of the rising ground around the castle, along with the lake, the woods and Eastnor village.

Can we add our names and the date?

Yes. Your names go in the title and the date goes beneath it, or write whatever you like there. You see the finished artwork before you pay.

Is this an official Eastnor Castle product?

No. Maps & Son is not connected with Eastnor Castle or its owners. The name says which place is mapped: this is a map of the venue and the land around it, drawn from OpenStreetMap.

How much does a wedding venue print cost?

Prints start at £24.95, printed on 240 gsm smooth fine-art paper, with delivery included to the UK and 25 other countries. Sold as A4, A3, A2 or A1 prints, unframed, at standard sizes so a ready-made frame will fit.
