Three Sisters Race Circuit circuit map print

Not a track outline: a real map of the circuit and the land around it.

A map artwork of Three Sisters Race Circuit: a white line traces a looping lap that folds back on itself through several hairpins, drawn over the circuit's own darker track outlines, two small round enclosures and the surrounding paths, all in muted olive greens.

Three Sisters takes its name from the three spoil heaps of Garswood Hall Colliery, on the edge of Ashton-in-Makerfield near Wigan. The heaps were levelled, and a race track was laid where they stood.

The lap, and the ground it runs over

The colliery closed in 1958. Reclamation began in the late 1960s, when millions of tonnes of spoil were moved and thousands of trees planted, and the recreation area opened in November 1978 with a lake, a country park and a kart track. Locals had called the old heaps the Wigan Alps.

The lap drawn on the artwork is the full circuit, which took its shape in the early 1990s when an extension was opened. Its bends carry names of their own, among them Pentith Climb, Coward's Summit, Lunar Bend, the Esses and Paddock Bend, with the Conrod Straight running between them.

Karts came first, then motorcycles in the early 1980s. Neil Hodgson won his first race here in 1990, and James Toseland began his racing on the same tarmac a few years later. On the map the lap folds back on itself several times inside the circuit's boundary, with the paths of the park around it.

The designer opens with the lap already drawn and the frame fitted to it. Write your title and the line beneath it, choose from 19 styles, and preview the finished artwork before you buy.

Questions

Which Three Sisters layout is drawn?

The full circuit, 1.450 km as measured from the map, with the climb to Coward's Summit included. The shorter layouts use parts of it, so a day on either still belongs on this map.

Can I add my lap time or finishing position?

Yes. The title and the line beneath it are yours to write, so a lap time, a result, a race or a date all fit. The Three Sisters Race Circuit lap and its length are drawn for you, and you see the finished artwork before you buy.

Where does the lap length come from?

It is measured from the track itself, as mapped by OpenStreetMap contributors, so it can differ by a few metres from the figure a circuit publishes.

Is this an official Three Sisters Race Circuit product?

No. Maps & Son is not affiliated with or endorsed by Three Sisters Race Circuit or its owners. The name says which place is mapped: this is a map of the circuit and the land around it, drawn from OpenStreetMap.

How much does a race circuit print cost?

Prints start at £24.95, printed on 240 gsm smooth fine-art paper, with delivery included to the UK and 25 other countries. Sold as A4, A3, A2 or A1 prints, unframed, at standard sizes so a ready-made frame will fit.
