Silverstone was a wartime bomber airfield before it was a circuit, and from above it still looks like one.
The lap, and the ground it runs over
The first races here, in 1948, ran on the runways and the perimeter road. Today's lap keeps to the edge of the old airfield, and on the artwork the runways still show faintly inside it. Copse, Maggotts and Becketts lead onto the Hangar Straight, Stowe and Club close the far end, and the lap folds back on itself through Village and The Loop before the Wellington Straight.
The county boundary between Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire runs through the site. The artwork draws everything a track outline leaves out: the campsites, car parks and access roads that fill up on a race weekend, and the farmland beyond them.
The designer opens with the lap already drawn and the frame fitted to it. Write your title and the line beneath it, choose from 19 styles, and preview the finished artwork before you buy.
Questions
Which Silverstone layout is drawn?
The Grand Prix circuit, the full 5.881 km lap. The National and International layouts use parts of the same track, so a result from either still belongs on this map: write which one in the line beneath the title.
Can I add my lap time or finishing position?
Yes. The title and the line beneath it are yours to write, so a lap time, a result, a race or a date all fit. The Silverstone lap and its length are drawn for you, and you see the finished artwork before you buy.
Where does the lap length come from?
It is measured from the track itself, as mapped by OpenStreetMap contributors, so it can differ by a few metres from the figure a circuit publishes.
Is this an official Silverstone product?
No. Maps & Son is not affiliated with or endorsed by Silverstone or its owners. The name says which place is mapped: this is a map of the circuit and the land around it, drawn from OpenStreetMap.
How much does a race circuit print cost?
Prints start at £24.95, printed on 240 gsm smooth fine-art paper, with delivery included to the UK and 25 other countries. Sold as A4, A3, A2 or A1 prints, unframed, at standard sizes so a ready-made frame will fit.
