Bahrain International Circuit was built in the desert at Sakhir and opened in 2004, the first track in the Middle East to hold a world championship Grand Prix.

The lap, and the ground it runs over

Hermann Tilke designed it, and the site holds far more than one lap: six separate tracks in all, including a test oval and a drag strip. Sand was the worry from the start, and the organisers kept it off the racing surface by spraying an adhesive on the ground around the track.

Since 2014 the main race has been run under lights. The artwork draws the Grand Prix layout in yellow over the plain grey-green of the desert floor, with the service roads and the other loops of the complex showing faintly around it, and a small grid of streets just beyond the top of the lap.

The designer opens with the lap already drawn and the frame fitted to it. Write your title and the line beneath it, choose from 19 styles, and preview the finished artwork before you buy.

Questions

Which Bahrain layout is drawn?

The Grand Prix circuit, the full 5.420 km lap. The Outer, Endurance and Paddock layouts share parts of it, and their extra roads show faintly on the map.

Can I add my lap time or finishing position?

Yes. The title and the line beneath it are yours to write, so a lap time, a result, a race or a date all fit. The Bahrain International Circuit lap and its length are drawn for you, and you see the finished artwork before you buy.

Where does the lap length come from?

It is measured from the track itself, as mapped by OpenStreetMap contributors, so it can differ by a few metres from the figure a circuit publishes.

Is this an official Bahrain International Circuit product?

No. Maps & Son is not affiliated with or endorsed by Bahrain International Circuit or its owners. The name says which place is mapped: this is a map of the circuit and the land around it, drawn from OpenStreetMap.

How much does a race circuit print cost?

Prints start at £24.95, printed on 240 gsm smooth fine-art paper, with delivery included to the UK and 25 other countries. Sold as A4, A3, A2 or A1 prints, unframed, at standard sizes so a ready-made frame will fit.
