Lydden Hill Race Circuit circuit map print

Not a track outline: a real map of the circuit and the land around it.

A map artwork of Lydden Hill Race Circuit in black and charcoal: the tarmac lap drawn as a tight red loop with a hairpin at its eastern end, beside darker curving bands of the off-road course, crossed by grey lanes and faint contour lines.

Lydden Hill, at Wootton between Canterbury and Dover, is where rallycross began: the first event was run here on 4 February 1967, and Vic Elford won it in a Porsche 911.

The lap, and the ground it runs over

Bill Chesson started the venue in 1955, with stock cars and grass-track motorcycles. In 1962 he laid tarmac for road racing, planning a longer lap, but the surface ran out at what is now Devil's Elbow, and the circuit has been short ever since. James Hunt took his first race win here in 1968.

The tarmac lap is drawn in red on the artwork, a tight loop down Dover Slope and back that sits in a fold of the Kent downs, with the darker gravel and grass of the off-road sections curling around it. The world rallycross championship came here from 2014, and British rallycross still does.

The designer opens with the lap already drawn and the frame fitted to it. Write your title and the line beneath it, choose from 19 styles, and preview the finished artwork before you buy.

Questions

Is the rallycross course on the map?

The red line is the tarmac lap, 1.099 km as measured from the map. The rallycross course mixes it with loose surface beside it, and the shapes of those sections show around the lap.

Can I add my lap time or finishing position?

Yes. The title and the line beneath it are yours to write, so a lap time, a result, a race or a date all fit. The Lydden Hill Race Circuit lap and its length are drawn for you, and you see the finished artwork before you buy.

Where does the lap length come from?

It is measured from the track itself, as mapped by OpenStreetMap contributors, so it can differ by a few metres from the figure a circuit publishes.

Is this an official Lydden Hill Race Circuit product?

No. Maps & Son is not affiliated with or endorsed by Lydden Hill Race Circuit or its owners. The name says which place is mapped: this is a map of the circuit and the land around it, drawn from OpenStreetMap.

How much does a race circuit print cost?

Prints start at £24.95, printed on 240 gsm smooth fine-art paper, with delivery included to the UK and 25 other countries. Sold as A4, A3, A2 or A1 prints, unframed, at standard sizes so a ready-made frame will fit.
