Kirkistown Racing Circuit circuit map print

Not a track outline: a real map of the circuit and the land around it.

Kirkistown lies near the foot of the Ards Peninsula in County Down, close to the fishing village of Portavogie, and it is Northern Ireland's only licensed permanent race track.

The lap, and the ground it runs over

It was RAF Kirkistown in the war. In 1953 the 500 Motor Racing Club of Ireland held its first meeting on the disused runways and perimeter roads, and the club owns and runs the circuit to this day. The main straight is the old east to west runway, and the artwork shows how flat and open the whole site is.

The corner names are local. Fisherman's is said to be where Portavogie men dried their nets on the hedge. The Hairpin is named after William Maguire, an early member whose brakes could not keep up with his engine. Nobody seems to know where Debtor's Dip got its name, and Colonial One and Colonial Two close the lap.

The designer opens with the lap already drawn and the frame fitted to it. Write your title and the line beneath it, choose from 19 styles, and preview the finished artwork before you buy.

Questions

What is the kink on the long straight?

The chicane, added in the 1970s to slow cars before the hairpin. It is part of the 2.404 km lap drawn on the map.

Can I add my lap time or finishing position?

Yes. The title and the line beneath it are yours to write, so a lap time, a result, a race or a date all fit. The Kirkistown Racing Circuit lap and its length are drawn for you, and you see the finished artwork before you buy.

Where does the lap length come from?

It is measured from the track itself, as mapped by OpenStreetMap contributors, so it can differ by a few metres from the figure a circuit publishes.

Is this an official Kirkistown Racing Circuit product?

No. Maps & Son is not affiliated with or endorsed by Kirkistown Racing Circuit or its owners. The name says which place is mapped: this is a map of the circuit and the land around it, drawn from OpenStreetMap.

How much does a race circuit print cost?

Prints start at £24.95, printed on 240 gsm smooth fine-art paper, with delivery included to the UK and 25 other countries. Sold as A4, A3, A2 or A1 prints, unframed, at standard sizes so a ready-made frame will fit.
