Suzuka circuit map print

Not a track outline: a real map of the circuit and the land around it.

A map artwork of Suzuka: the figure of eight lap drawn in coral red, crossing itself near the centre, set among pale green woods, small blue-grey ponds and the soft relief of low hills, with white roads on an off-white background.

Suzuka is laid out as a figure of eight, and on the artwork the lap crosses itself exactly once, where one half of the track bridges the other.

The lap, and the ground it runs over

It was designed by the Dutchman John Hugenholtz and opened in September 1962 as Honda's own test track, in the hills of Ino, a district of Suzuka City. The back straight passes over the front half of the lap on an overpass, so cars run clockwise for one half of the lap and anticlockwise for the other.

The artwork follows the whole shape: the snaking climb away from the pits, the loop at the far western end, the long run back across the bridge and the fast left at 130R, reshaped after serious accidents in 2002 and 2003. Woods and ponds fill the valleys around it, and riders know the place for the Suzuka 8 Hours, a motorcycle endurance race held here since 1978.

The designer opens with the lap already drawn and the frame fitted to it. Write your title and the line beneath it, choose from 19 styles, and preview the finished artwork before you buy.

Questions

Where does the lap cross itself?

Near the middle of the artwork, where the back straight passes over the front half of the 5.807 km lap. The line is drawn continuous, as the bridge carries it.

Can I add my lap time or finishing position?

Yes. The title and the line beneath it are yours to write, so a lap time, a result, a race or a date all fit. The Suzuka lap and its length are drawn for you, and you see the finished artwork before you buy.

Where does the lap length come from?

It is measured from the track itself, as mapped by OpenStreetMap contributors, so it can differ by a few metres from the figure a circuit publishes.

Is this an official Suzuka product?

No. Maps & Son is not affiliated with or endorsed by Suzuka or its owners. The name says which place is mapped: this is a map of the circuit and the land around it, drawn from OpenStreetMap.

How much does a race circuit print cost?

Prints start at £24.95, printed on 240 gsm smooth fine-art paper, with delivery included to the UK and 25 other countries. Sold as A4, A3, A2 or A1 prints, unframed, at standard sizes so a ready-made frame will fit.
