Donington Park is laid out in the old parkland of Donington Hall, on the edge of Castle Donington, with East Midlands Airport as its next-door neighbour.
The lap, and the ground it runs over
Racing began here in 1931, and the cars of the pre-war Donington Grand Prix ran over the same rolling ground. The lap on the artwork is the full Grand Prix circuit: down the Craner Curves to the Old Hairpin, up through Starkey's Bridge and McLeans to Coppice, then along the Wheatcroft Straight to the Melbourne Hairpin and back through Goddards.
The Craner Curves are the drop everybody remembers, and the contours on the map show why: the ground falls away from the start and climbs back on the other side, which is the whole character of the place.
The designer opens with the lap already drawn and the frame fitted to it. Write your title and the line beneath it, choose from 19 styles, and preview the finished artwork before you buy.
Questions
Is it the National or the Grand Prix circuit?
The Grand Prix circuit, 3.995 km with the Melbourne loop. The National circuit cuts the loop off, so if that was yours, the rest of the lap is exactly as drawn.
Can I add my lap time or finishing position?
Yes. The title and the line beneath it are yours to write, so a lap time, a result, a race or a date all fit. The Donington Park lap and its length are drawn for you, and you see the finished artwork before you buy.
Where does the lap length come from?
It is measured from the track itself, as mapped by OpenStreetMap contributors, so it can differ by a few metres from the figure a circuit publishes.
Is this an official Donington Park product?
No. Maps & Son is not affiliated with or endorsed by Donington Park or its owners. The name says which place is mapped: this is a map of the circuit and the land around it, drawn from OpenStreetMap.
How much does a race circuit print cost?
Prints start at £24.95, printed on 240 gsm smooth fine-art paper, with delivery included to the UK and 25 other countries. Sold as A4, A3, A2 or A1 prints, unframed, at standard sizes so a ready-made frame will fit.
