Hethel (Lotus) Test Track circuit map print

Not a track outline: a real map of the circuit and the land around it.

A map artwork of the Hethel test track: a red line traces a long boomerang, one narrow straight arm reaching to the top right and a wavy arm running down to the bottom, beside thin black factory roads and faint contours on a white background.

Hethel is the private test track of Lotus, built on the runways of a wartime bomber airfield south west of Norwich. It is not a public circuit; it is where Lotus cars are developed.

The lap, and the ground it runs over

RAF Hethel was built in 1942 for American bomber crews, among them the 389th Bomb Group. It closed in 1948 and lay empty for years, and in the summer of 1966 Lotus moved its factory here from north London, drawn by the runways, perimeter roads and buildings.

The airfield's two runways crossed in an X. Lotus kept half of each to make a test track, and that boomerang shape survives today, though it has been altered many times since. The old control tower was refurbished as the clubhouse of the Lotus driving academy.

The artwork shows the boomerang plainly: one long, straight arm pointing north east along the line of the old runway, a winding arm running south, and between and beside them the factory roads, field edges and flat Norfolk farmland that took the rest of the airfield back.

The designer opens with the lap already drawn and the frame fitted to it. Write your title and the line beneath it, choose from 19 styles, and preview the finished artwork before you buy.

Questions

Is Hethel a racing circuit?

No. It is Lotus's own test track, used to develop its cars, not a public race circuit. The line on the artwork is the whole track as mapped, 3.520 km round.

Can I add my lap time or finishing position?

Yes. The title and the line beneath it are yours to write, so a lap time, a result, a race or a date all fit. The Hethel (Lotus) Test Track lap and its length are drawn for you, and you see the finished artwork before you buy.

Where does the lap length come from?

It is measured from the track itself, as mapped by OpenStreetMap contributors, so it can differ by a few metres from the figure a circuit publishes.

Is this an official Hethel (Lotus) Test Track product?

No. Maps & Son is not affiliated with or endorsed by Hethel (Lotus) Test Track or its owners. The name says which place is mapped: this is a map of the circuit and the land around it, drawn from OpenStreetMap.

How much does a race circuit print cost?

Prints start at £24.95, printed on 240 gsm smooth fine-art paper, with delivery included to the UK and 25 other countries. Sold as A4, A3, A2 or A1 prints, unframed, at standard sizes so a ready-made frame will fit.
