Thruxton, near Andover in Hampshire, is known as the fastest circuit in Britain, laid around the perimeter of a wartime airfield that still flies light aircraft today.
The lap, and the ground it runs over
The lap is one long, open sweep, and you can see it in the shape on the artwork: fast bends almost all the way round, with only the chicane at Club to slow it. Several corners are named after land speed record holders, Campbell, Cobb, Segrave and Noble, and two after older circuits, Brooklands and Goodwood.
Around the lap the artwork shows the airfield's buildings inside the loop and the rolling chalk country of Hampshire around it, shaded in relief.
The designer opens with the lap already drawn and the frame fitted to it. Write your title and the line beneath it, choose from 19 styles, and preview the finished artwork before you buy.
Questions
Why is the line so smooth?
Because the circuit is. It follows the perimeter of the old airfield, and the 3.767 km lap is drawn from the track itself as mapped, bend for bend.
Can I add my lap time or finishing position?
Yes. The title and the line beneath it are yours to write, so a lap time, a result, a race or a date all fit. The Thruxton lap and its length are drawn for you, and you see the finished artwork before you buy.
Where does the lap length come from?
It is measured from the track itself, as mapped by OpenStreetMap contributors, so it can differ by a few metres from the figure a circuit publishes.
Is this an official Thruxton product?
No. Maps & Son is not affiliated with or endorsed by Thruxton or its owners. The name says which place is mapped: this is a map of the circuit and the land around it, drawn from OpenStreetMap.
How much does a race circuit print cost?
Prints start at £24.95, printed on 240 gsm smooth fine-art paper, with delivery included to the UK and 25 other countries. Sold as A4, A3, A2 or A1 prints, unframed, at standard sizes so a ready-made frame will fit.
