Laguna Seca circuit map print

Not a track outline: a real map of the circuit and the land around it.

A map artwork of Laguna Seca: the lap drawn as a long red line folded across a hillside, with pale blue ponds inside it, dark roads around it and contour lines over shaded hills, in soft sage green, grey and white.

Laguna Seca takes its name from the Spanish for a dry lake, and the circuit was laid out in 1957 around an old lake bed in the hills of Monterey County.

The lap, and the ground it runs over

It was built on part of Fort Ord, then a US Army base, with money raised from local businesses and people, and the land passed to the county parks department in 1974. The track still sits inside the Laguna Seca Recreation Area. The artwork shows the lap folded across a hillside, the contours tightening where the ground climbs, and the ponds that were dug inside the lap when the course was reconfigured.

From the Andretti Hairpin the lap works its way uphill, along the Rahal Straight to a blind crest, and then drops away through The Corkscrew, a left and right taken while the road falls out from under the car. Rainey Curve follows at the foot of it. In 1996 Alessandro Zanardi passed Bryan Herta there on the final lap, a move still replayed whenever the place is mentioned.

The designer opens with the lap already drawn and the frame fitted to it. Write your title and the line beneath it, choose from 19 styles, and preview the finished artwork before you buy.

Questions

Where is The Corkscrew on the map?

Near the top of the lap, where the line turns sharply at the highest ground. The full 3.601 km lap is drawn, and the contours around that corner show the hill it drops down.

Is the water on the map real?

Yes. The ponds inside the lap are on the ground today, added when the course was reconfigured, on land that was once a lake bed.

Can I add my lap time or finishing position?

Yes. The title and the line beneath it are yours to write, so a lap time, a result, a race or a date all fit. The Laguna Seca lap and its length are drawn for you, and you see the finished artwork before you buy.

Where does the lap length come from?

It is measured from the track itself, as mapped by OpenStreetMap contributors, so it can differ by a few metres from the figure a circuit publishes.

Is this an official Laguna Seca product?

No. Maps & Son is not affiliated with or endorsed by Laguna Seca or its owners. The name says which place is mapped: this is a map of the circuit and the land around it, drawn from OpenStreetMap.

How much does a race circuit print cost?

Prints start at £24.95, printed on 240 gsm smooth fine-art paper, with delivery included to the UK and 25 other countries. Sold as A4, A3, A2 or A1 prints, unframed, at standard sizes so a ready-made frame will fit.
