Bedford Autodrome circuit map print

Not a track outline: a real map of the circuit and the land around it.

A map artwork of Bedford Autodrome in sage green and cream: the West circuit drawn as a slim dark teal line folding between broad cream runways and taxiways of the old airfield, with smaller test tracks, a small pond and field edges on soft green ground.

Bedford Autodrome, at Thurleigh in Bedfordshire, was built never to hold a race: there are no spectators, few barriers and wide run-off, because it exists for driving rather than watching.

The lap, and the ground it runs over

The ground was a wartime bomber airfield, handed to the American air force in December 1942 for its B-17s. After the war it became a research centre for supersonic flight, and several of the wind tunnels built then are still there. The racing driver Jonathan Palmer opened the Autodrome in 1999, reusing some of the old runways and roads.

Its several layouts can be joined into one long circuit, and the artwork draws the West circuit, the lap PalmerSport uses for its single seaters. The broad runways still cross the map in pale bands, the lap folding round them in the green between, and the aerodrome that still flies from the site lies just beyond.

The designer opens with the lap already drawn and the frame fitted to it. Write your title and the line beneath it, choose from 19 styles, and preview the finished artwork before you buy.

Questions

Which Bedford layout is drawn?

The West circuit, 2.803 km as measured from the map. The GT layout joins West to the other circuits, so if yours was a longer day, say so in the line beneath the title.

Can I add my lap time or finishing position?

Yes. The title and the line beneath it are yours to write, so a lap time, a result, a race or a date all fit. The Bedford Autodrome lap and its length are drawn for you, and you see the finished artwork before you buy.

Where does the lap length come from?

It is measured from the track itself, as mapped by OpenStreetMap contributors, so it can differ by a few metres from the figure a circuit publishes.

Is this an official Bedford Autodrome product?

No. Maps & Son is not affiliated with or endorsed by Bedford Autodrome or its owners. The name says which place is mapped: this is a map of the circuit and the land around it, drawn from OpenStreetMap.

How much does a race circuit print cost?

Prints start at £24.95, printed on 240 gsm smooth fine-art paper, with delivery included to the UK and 25 other countries. Sold as A4, A3, A2 or A1 prints, unframed, at standard sizes so a ready-made frame will fit.
