Oulton Park runs through the parkland of the Oulton estate near Little Budworth, in Cheshire: woods, a long lake and plenty of up and down, and none of it an old airfield.
The lap, and the ground it runs over
It opened in 1953, and its corners follow the lie of the land rather than a runway. Their names read like a walk round the estate: Cascades and Lakeside by the water, Hilltop, Knickerbrook, Druids and Lodge. The artwork draws the full International lap, chicanes at Britten's and Hislop's included.
Because the estate's woods and its lake are still there, it makes one of the greenest circuit maps there is, the lap threading between trees and water instead of crossing open concrete.
