Brands Hatch lies in a natural bowl on the North Downs near West Kingsdown, in Kent, and the map shows how much of the lap the grandstands never see.
The lap, and the ground it runs over
The short Indy loop stays inside the bowl: down Paddock Hill, up to Druids and back round through Clearways, all in view of the spectator banks. The full lap drawn on the artwork leaves it, out past Hawthorns and Westfield and down through Dingle Dell, into the woods on the far side of the hill.
Racing here began on a grass track for motorcycles in the 1920s, and the corners carry the names of drivers and riders who made the place famous: Surtees, Brabham, Graham Hill, Sheene. The artwork sets the lap among the contours of the hill and the lanes around it, with the main road along its northern edge.
