Hamburg's longer amateur ride goes out over the harbour, through the orchards of the Altes Land and up into the hills south of the Elbe, then finishes on the same shopping street as the professionals.
The ride starts in the HafenCity, on Versmannstraße, among the new blocks beside the water, and in 2026 it crossed the Elbe on the new Elbe bridge in both directions, because the Freihafenbrücke was unavailable. Within minutes the field is in the working port, among container terminals and gantry cranes, and then comes the Köhlbrandbrücke, the long cable-stayed bridge over the Köhlbrand channel. Cyclists are normally barred from it, which makes the crossing one of the moments riders come for, and the climb up its ramp is the first effort of the morning.
West of the port the route heads into the Altes Land, the low, diked fruit country along the south bank of the Elbe, where apple and cherry orchards line the roads behind the dikes. It is flat and exposed, and a westerly wind turns it into hard work for anyone left without a wheel to follow. At Buxtehude, where the professional race now starts, the course turns south through the districts of Stade and Harburg, and the ground at last begins to rise as the roads climb into the wooded hills on the edge of the Lüneburg Heath.
The climb that matters is Rosengartenstraße, in the municipality of Rosengarten, the one real test of the day and the place where groups break up. After it the route runs back down through Harburg, crosses the Köhlbrandbrücke a second time and threads through the harbour before returning over the Elbe into the city. The finish is on Mönckebergstraße, the shopping street between the Hauptbahnhof and the Rathaus, where every edition of the professional race has ended since the first in 1996. The amateurs are home by lunchtime, hours before the professionals sprint for the same line.
Questions
Does this route include the Waseberg?
No. The Waseberg in Blankenese, which the professionals climb several times in their finale, is on the north bank of the Elbe and is not on this route. The amateurs' main climb is Rosengartenstraße, south of Harburg.
Which year's course is this?
It is the course ridden on 16 August 2026, which crossed the new Elbe bridge both ways out of and back into the city. Apart from that bridge it closely followed the 2025 route, including both crossings of the Köhlbrandbrücke.
Can I add my finishing time?
Yes. The title and the line beneath it are yours to write, so your name, your finishing time and your club all fit. The 2026 course and its distance are drawn for you, and you see the finished artwork before you buy.
Is this an official Cyclassics Hamburg print?
No. Maps & Son is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the organisers of the Cyclassics Hamburg; the name says which course is mapped. The course is drawn from a route file we use with permission.
Can I change the map?
Yes. The designer opens with the course drawn and the map framed around it. Move the map if you like, choose from 19 styles, and preview the finished artwork before you buy.
How much does a race route print cost?
Prints start at £24.95, printed on 240 gsm smooth fine-art paper, with delivery included to the UK and 25 other countries. Sold as A4, A3, A2 or A1 prints, unframed, at standard sizes so a ready-made frame will fit.
